The first known reference to Hägersten was as a cottage, mentioned in the year 1432. The present buildings were probably constructed sometime in the middle of the 1750's. During that time the farm was often visited by the locally renowned Swedish poet named Carl Michael Bellman, whose sister lived there. Several of Bellman's songs consequently have their settings in and around the farm.
